My ISR journey started when my oldest child was a baby. I saw the baby Miles video and knew instantly that ISR was in our future! My oldest son started ISR lessons with his Instructor when he was 15 months and continued with her for 3 summers before I decided to become a Certified ISR Instructor myself. I trained and began teaching in 2016, and since then I have taught 250+ kids within Wilmington! Teaching children to swim for survival is my absolute passion, and I am committed to educating the community on how to stay safe in and around the water.
I have 3 children, ages 8, 5, and 1. All of them have been through the program, and I even taught the youngest two myself! Even before I began teaching, I always felt that no other investment has been more worthwhile than ISR lessons. Nothing can compare to the peace of mind it brings my husband and me, and I am always excited to give that gift to other families!
My ISR journey began in 1986, when I myself was just an ISR baby and learning to swim before I could walk! Growing up in Florida, I developed a great respect for the water from an early age and knew that I would instill that same respect within my children if I were blessed to have them. Fast forward to 2016 when my husband and I moved to Wilmington with our 6 month old son and I immediately began to look for an ISR Instructor to begin lessons and that is when I found the amazing Amanda Shrestha! Coming from Florida where swim season is all year long and there is a plethora of Instructors to choose from, I had no idea how difficult it could be to get my son into lessons. We had to wait until the weather was warm enough and cross our fingers we made it off the waitlist, but we did and so began my own child's ISR journey! After 3 summers with Amanda, and the waitlist continuing to grow, I knew she and Ann needed more help to teach all the children in our community. So in 2019 I became a certified Instructor with ISR.
I have 4 children ages 7, 5, 2.5, and 9mo. The older 3 are ISR kiddos and my youngest will be getting in the water to swim with me as soon as our pool is complete. I have proudly been an ISR student and parent for many years and now humbly an ISR Instructor. I am dedicated to the mission of not one more child drowns and I am excited that as a team we can make ISR lessons more accessible to Wilmington and surrounding areas. I look forward to meeting you and teaching your child ISR Self-Rescue Skills!
Being a retired Paramedic/Firefighter from South Florida, the importance of life safety and helping people has always been something that I've had a passion for and been inspired to do. And having grown up always being around water in some way, I've always had a respect for its uncertainty and power.
When I started having children in 2009, there was not even a thought as to how I was going to proceed regarding water safety and my own little ones. We enrolled my oldest into ISR when he was under a year old and became a host pool when #2 & #3 came along to help service other families as well.
After years of ISR sessions, refreshers & maintenance lessons with my own 3 children and seeing what ISR did for my "mommy heart" it was a no brainer decision for me to become a Certified Instructor after my husband and I retired from Fire Rescue and moved to Wilmington. I am so honored and blessed to be continuing my mission of life safety and helping others and I look forward to helping your family soon!
As a Wilmington native I’ve spent most of my life near the water. I grew up with a pool in the backyard and surfing is still one of my favorite things to do today. Fun fact: I’ll be teaching in the very same pool I grew up swimming in! My wife and I are UNCW alumni, and we have three water loving children. Public service has always been a priority for me. I’ve served in the US Navy, before returning to Wilmington to become a Wilmington firefighter/EMT. My experience as a firefighter motivated me to pursue career in nursing where I got the opportunity to work side by side with my child’s pediatrician and some of our local military veterans.
As a father, water safety is extremely important to me. ISR is the earliest age-based program available but what I love most is that it teaches actual survival skills needed for the water. My daughter could swim by the time ISR came into our lives, but my son took lessons with Amanda Kranski, and I will be forever grateful for the skills he has learned. The experience provided him a healthy respect for water and as parents we have the security and peace of mind knowing our child has the water survival skills he needs.
I love the water, my family, and my community. ISR presented an opportunity like none other to combine all the things I love in this world into a rewarding career teaching self-rescue skills to children.
For those reasons and many more I am excited to join the ISR team in Wilmington.
Thank you for trusting me with your most prized possessions!
